This cute octopus (though I'd venture to call him a sextopus as he only has 6 arms) comes with 3 different rings to hook onto his tentacles - a star, fish and lifesaver ring.
When I first introduced the toy to Penny we laid him on the edge of the bathtub so that she can get the hang of hooking the rings on his arms. After a couple tries she got the concept and into the water he went - where it was a lot harder to hook!
This simple toy has been a learning tool for a couple reasons. Penny already recognized the star, fish and ring shapes but for one reason or another these rings quickly added those words to her vocabulary and she was pointing them out everywhere after playing with the octopus. It's also helped her work on hand-eye coordination as the octopus can quickly slip out of her reach in the water so she's had to learn patience and agility.
